Welcome back for another Concept of the Month post! Can you believe it's already December? In this Concept of the Month post we're going to be touching on a notion that has really seemed to blossom this year, and that is "old meets new". We see the queen herself, Joanna Gaines, use this concept in almost every design we see from her! Whether it's bringing in antiqued materials or decor, or getting a custom wood table made, there's always that "old" element incorporated somehow.
Now, when you hear the word "old", don't let it scare you. Every designer has a different interpretation of how to incorporate the old element. While Joanna likes to repurpose materials and objects, that's not the only way to do it! It could simply be done by using unfinished wood somewhere or getting a product that's much more natural looking. Sometimes using more natural or unfinished pieces can really help a clean and sleek design feel more organic and cozy!

We see this concept used a lot in the Modern Farmhouse style, where rustic meets modern. The rustic elements are shown throughout the use of natural materials like unfinished wood accents, painted brick, leather, etc. And where there's rustic, there's modern. The modern elements can be incorporated through marble, black trim, clean lines, and the list goes on.
So, next time you hear the phrase "old meets new" and its scares you, just think of it as "rustic meets modern". Like we mentioned, every designer is going to have a different way of expressing this idea, and every person or client is going to have a different idea of how they want that concept incorporated into their space.
